Royal Mail announce more ‘Green’ vehicles for mail delivery and is in the process of partnering with London Electric Vehicle Company to trial a new VN5 prototype electric van. It is based on a typical London taxi cab and will initially be utilised for both parcel and letter delivery. The electric vehicle scheme is fully endorsed by mailing companies like 05 Direct Mail Ltd in the pursuit of a cleaner and more energy efficient marketing system in the UK.
Royal Mail say they are certainly not looking to replace the great work their postmen and postwomen do. Trialling drones is an exciting opportunity to test out new ways of working to those workers who deliver standard and advertising mail to some of the most remote areas of the UK.
At the beginning of this year, Royal Mail linked with a consortium of UK drone companies including DronePrep and Skyports with the aim to become the first nationwide UK parcel carrier to transport mail and parcels via an unmanned aerial vehicle.
